SmartCAM v2019 CAM software consists of applications for CNC milling, turning, fabrication and wire EDM. Also included are changes to the user interface and core functionality.

The Adaptive Solid Pocket Process is said to be used to create high-speed rough milling toolpath when pocketing on solid or surface models. The CAD solid model contains a single or multiple closed pocket features and can be comprised of any number of islands and 'shelves', according to the company. Pocket walls can be vertical or drafted and bottom fillet radii are supported by the process.

An Adaptive Solid Planar Roughing Process is said to be used to create high-speed rough milling toolpath when it is required to remove material from a stock volume on solid or surface models. The model may consist of any combination of core and cavity features, with open or closed, blind or through regions, and can include any number of islands and 'shelves', according to the company. The process is said to be suitable for roughing simple prismatic parts through to complex-surface molds and dies.

The software benefits include individually sized toolbars, optional text on toolbars, toolbar sets, zoom view to active group and a gradient background in the graphics window. Core improvements to the software include knowledge-based machining enhancements, a verification section, wire EDM upper/lower guide offsets, updated solid modeling kernel and updated data translators.

  • Enhanced Tool Path Control

CNC Software has released Mastercam X2’s Maintenance Release (MR1), available to all Maintenance customers and all new Mastercam customers. The capabilities include improved tool paths for high speed machining, multi-axis enhancements and more. The high speed machining pencil tool path has been enhanced to provide smoother motion with fewer retracts when used with rest material.

  • Software For Multi-Axis Tool Paths

Mastercam X Maintenance Release 2 (MR2) software offers multi-axis tool paths, X Art and more.  An engine on the multi-axis tool path provides a customized, streamlined interface that is fine-tuned to specific applications, such as impellers and turbine blades. Depending on what tool path is being used, the company’s parameter pages display parameters applicable to the specific tool path type.
