AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology and Mesago (a subsidiary of Messe Frankfurt Group) are collaborating on the creation of an Automation Sector at IMTS – The International Manufacturing Technology Show in 2024 in Chicago, Illinois, and SPS – Smart Production Solutions in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2025. The Automation Sector at IMTS and SPS will be held in alternate years, and both events will be supported by Gardner Business Media (GBM), a publisher for manufacturing in North America. Alro Steel Opens Philadelphia Facility
Alro Steel has opened a new facility in the Philadelphia area in Morrisville, Pennsylvania. The 149,000-square-foot location was custom built to include extra storage space for an expanded material offering, including large structural shapes, bar products, sheet and plate, and the ability to warehouse special inventory programs. In addition, the Philadelphia location has added capacity to its value-added processing services for bar and structural cutting, shearing and aluminum plate sawing. The new inventory and expanded processing services enable Alro Philadelphia to focus on cut-to-size metals and next-day delivery to better serve its customers in the Northeast.

NIMS Appoints Four New 2023 Board Members
The National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) has appointed four new industry leaders to the NIMS Board of Directors in 2023, including Joanna Dowling, Neil Ashbaugh, Ryan Spielman and Stephen B. Leonard. They will each serve for three years. NIMS is a nonprofit formed in 1995 to develop and maintain a globally competitive American workforce. The vision of NIMS is to build a globally competitive American workforce through collaboratively established industry standards, proven training frameworks and processes that dynamically respond to our technology-driven economy.

Allied Machine Expands Online Interactive Experience
Allied Machine and Engineering has added Allied Europe (located in the UK) and Wohlhaupter (located in Germany) to its online digital platform — Allied’s Interactive Experience. Users can now virtually visit the Allied Europe and Wohlhaupter facilities, meet various members of the global Allied team and discover the company’s holemaking and finishing cutting tools solutions.

Elio Lupica Named Mikron Tool COO
Mikron Tool COO Markus Schnyder, head of division for the Swiss tool specialist, has handed over the management of the company to his longtime associate, Elio Lupica. After leading the company for 24 years, Schnyder is retiring, but will still be available to the company in a consulting function.

Women in Manufacturing Association Partners With SME to Produce Virtual Career Fairs
The Women in Manufacturing Association (WiM) is partnering with SME (The Society of Manufacturing Engineers) to produce two virtual career fairs in 2023, with the first scheduled for Feb. 9, 2023, and the second to be held at a date to be determined later in the year. With SME’s support as a key partner, the WiM virtual career fairs will provide opportunities for manufacturing employers to connect with job seekers from across the country, and for job seekers to connect with companies that support, promote and inspire women in manufacturing.

Jergens Names Bryon Shafer VP of ASG Division
Jergens has appointed Bryon Shafer vice president of its ASG division. The move comes along with other corporate changes taking place that the company says will further increase Jergens’ focus on manufacturing in the U.S. With the new position, Shafer has global responsibility overseeing more than 50 employees who provide torque control, fastening and precision assembly tools to nearly 30 countries around the world.

Verisurf Software Adds Wenzel to Reseller Network
Verisurf Software and Wenzel America have entered into an OEM reseller agreement. As part of the agreement, Wenzel customers now have the option to select Verisurf measurement and inspection software for all new and legacy CMM devices directly from Wenzel. “Customers can now order complete Wenzel metrology solutions powered by Verisurf software for CMM programming, inspection, quality reporting, reverse engineering, tool building and guided assembly,” says Pat Bass, Verisurf Software director of sales.
