Zapp Precision Wire manufactures high-requirement, high-performance steels such as metallic semifinished wire, bar, profile, sheet and strip for a variety of applications, including rolling, drawing, annealing and grinding.

One of Zapp’s most popular products is its alloy Zapp 430FR/ DIN 1.4105 IL. These bars are used in solenoid valves for pneumatic, hydraulic and HVAC applications. Zapp’s 430FR (~X6CrMoS17) is a stainless free-cutting steel with excellent soft magnetic properties. It is designed for volume production of precision-turned parts. The grade is said to perform well in water, steam and other work environments. If welding is necessary, plasma or laser welding is preferred. Within limits, the grade is also suitable for cold-forming operations.

With state-of-the-art annealing technology at its plant in Summerville, South Caroline, it produces specialized steels for valve technology with constant, soft magnetic properties. To ensure the quality of its bars, it uses sophisticated defect detection systems based on the latest technology. Its bars are 100 % inspected to ensure the very best quality. In this way, the company says customers can rely on Zapp to be a consistent and reliable supplier.

I recently learned about a 153-year-old manufacturer that has produced billions upon billions of precision, metal pins which started another business making one-off wooden baseball bats.
