Like the cold winter breezes, we are blasting into the New Year and we’re doing it by focusing on the importance of parts cleaning. Like all precision machining technology, parts cleaning technology is always evolving. The latest cleaning trends point toward environmentally friendly ways to clean effectively, involving the replacement of harmful chemical solvents within a cleaning process or switching to a mostly aqueous method. Other shifts in the industry involve updated processes that clean and dry complex parts better than ever before.
Every month, Production Machining puts together a Technology Showcase, highlighting some of the product information that PM received from supplier companies. For December, we are concentrating on Parts Cleaning, including a spray washer designed as a high-capacity machine with low energy usage; an aqueous cleaning fluid for cleaning soft metals; a single-chamber cleaning system for industrial parts cleaning; and more as described below.

Cortec’s VpCI-330 rust preventive (RP) is said to offer excellent corrosion protection with an improved user experience, making it easier it easier to protect gears, spindles, coils, hinges, flanges, nuts, bolts and more. The company says the RP is easy to spray onto metal parts using a handheld trigger spray bottle or common spray equipment.
D-Greeze 500-LO's aggressive cleaning action penetrates, dissolves, and removes lubricating oils, grease, cosmolin, adhesive deposits and other contaminants. Photo Credit: Solvent Kleene
Solvent-Kleene’s D-Greeze 500-LO is a non-hazardous cleaner that cleans quickly at room temperature. According to the manufacturer, it outperforms trichloroethane. Unlike aqueous and many other non-hazardous cleaners, the solvent does not compromise performance for safety. It can be used in most existing equipment, including immersion tanks, ultrasonic systems and parts washers with little or no modification.
